Refective Ceiling Plans (RCPs)

What is a Reflective Ceiling Plan?

A Reflected Ceiling Plan (RCP) is a scaled drawing that shows the layout and features of a ceiling as if you were looking at it reflected in a mirror on the floor below. This allows the ceiling design to be clearly illustrated in relation to the room layout beneath it.

RCPs are based on accurate survey data or coordinated design information and are typically produced at the same scale as the corresponding floor plans.

Depending on the project requirements, a measured floor plan can show:

  • A reflected ceiling plan can include:

  • Ceiling heights and level changes

  • Lighting layouts, including light fittings and feature lighting

  • Smoke detectors, speakers, and alarms

  • HVAC grilles, diffusers, and extract vents

  • Ceiling types, such as suspended, vaulted, or plasterboard ceilings

  • Bulkheads, soffits, and structural features

  • Ceiling grids and tile layouts (where applicable)

At Total Geomatics, measured floor plans and RCPs are produced using a combination of Totalstations, GNSS, and 3D laser scanning. This approach allows us to capture all areas of the property accurately, including complex or irregular layouts. The survey data is then processed in-house by our trained CAD technicians to produce clear, precise drawings.

What are Reflective Ceiling Plans Used For?

You may need a reflected ceiling plan if:

  • The ceiling design is complex or non-uniform

  • New lighting, ventilation, or services are being installed

  • Ceiling heights vary or include bulkheads or features

  • Accurate coordination is required between architectural, electrical, and mechanical layouts

  • You want to reduce errors and costly changes during construction

A well-prepared RCP helps contractors understand exactly what is required at ceiling level, reducing ambiguity on site and ensuring the finished space matches the design intent.

Deliverables

All survey data is processed and CAD work is carried out in-house by our team of trained CAD technicians, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and a quick turnaround.

Plans are typically supplied at scales such as 1:50 or 1:100 and can be tailored to suit the need of the individual project.

We provide all drawings by email in digital format, usually in .DWG and .PDF formats, however other formats can be provided.

Hard copy drawings can be supplied for an additional fee if required.
